Easiest amp Lasting Finish – Birch Plywood

Iā€™m building garage cabinets which are by far my most aggressive project to date. The project is framed in and Iā€™m planning to add the face / doors as the next step. Before I move to that stage, I want to put a finish on the interior of the cabinets, which are birch plywood. I have not stained / finished wood before, thus my question:

What is the easiest / best / nicest looking finish I can use to stain & finish the birch plywood? It would be ideal if I could stain / varnish at the same time – just to save me some time to an already lengthy project. Wood protection is my first priority and appearance is a second.

Thought this project out before hand, and have made my self a marking knife template for a marking knife I’m gonna attempt to make from this dirty old saw blade.

This is my first attempt at any real sort of knife making, I’m not a knife making person, but I’d like to use the blade for something, other them throwing it in the scrap metal pile
